3 Ways To Decorate A Log Home

Perhaps you have the good fortune of living in a log home. Or perhaps you are considering buying or building a log home.

With an undeniable charm and timeless connection to nature, log homes have captivated our imagination for generations.

In fact, my husband and I are currently in the process of renovating a 1700s log home–follow along on my blog. As the logs on our project are painstakingly exposed and cleaned, I can’t help but begin to imagine different décor styles that lend themselves naturally to the earthy, warm tones of exposed logs.

Maybe you are like me and you love the idea of a log home, but not the overly-rustic, cabin-like style that often comes to mind when picturing the interior of a log home. You know what I mean…rugs with bear motifs, log-framed furniture, wooded wall signs that say “Welcome to Our Cabin”.

Fortunately, log homes can be styled to be cozy and current!

Here are three decorating styles that will both enhance the beauty of natural logs and give an updated feel to your home.

1.Modern Organic Style

Modern organic decor style blends contemporary design elements with natural materials, textures, and earthy tones to create a harmonious and tranquil living space. It emphasizes sustainability, simplicity, and connection to nature while incorporating sleek lines and minimalist aesthetics commonly found in modern interior design.

Here are key characteristics of modern organic decor:

  • Natural materials including wood, stone, jute, linen, cotton, and bamboo
  • a neutral and earthy color palette
  • biophilic design principles which aim to incorporate elements of nature into indoor spaces This could include indoor plants, large window for natural light, or natural wood elements (like logs).

Why It Works In A Log Home

The natural materials and soothing, earthy tones found in this decor style pair beautifully with hand-cut logs. The irregular, organic shapes provide a natural backdrop to the sleek lines found in the modern organic decor style.

The English equestrian style evokes a sense of warmth and luxury while also reflecting the ruggedness associated with equestrian pursuits. This style of décor drawing inspiration from the refined elegance and charm of a traditional English country manor and the world of horseback riding. It combines elements of classic sophistication with rugged finishes, creating a luxurious yet comfortable ambiance.

Key elements of an English equestrian style of decor:

  • Rich, natural materials like leather, suede, aged wood and brass accents
  • Earthy color palette including dark tones of brown, deep greens as well as light beige and cream
  • Plaid and tartan patterns which pay homage to traditional English textiles
  • Fox hunt motifs and artwork which infuse the space with a sense of history and heritage
  • Antique and Vintage furniture, either natural or painted

Why It Works In A Log Home

The rugged, outdoorsy feel of natural hand-hewn logs work beautifully with the English equestrian style. The logs provide a sense of history and enhance the masculine feel of this style. But this is not a primitive cabin ambiance! It is traditional and sophisticated with classic lines and quality finishes. The perfect complement to your log home.

3.Charming Cottage Style

Charming cottage decor evokes a cozy and inviting atmosphere reminiscent of quaint countryside homes. It combines elements of vintage finishes, relaxed elegance, and a touch of whimsy to create a space that feels warm, welcoming, and full of character. Here are key characteristics of charming cottage decor:

  • A soft color palette such as creamy whites, soft blues, gentle greens.
  • Antique and vintage furnishings with less-than-perfect finishes.
  • A mix of patterns on upholstered furniture, wallpaper, and textile finishes– florals, checks, and botanical motifs all layered together.
  • Mismatched, eclectic accents and a collected-over-time look.
  • Traditional and cozy.

Why It Works In A Log Home

The charming cottage decor style embraces a relaxed and casual aesthetic that celebrates the simple pleasures of country living. The imperfect and casual mood of this style combines seamlessly with exposed log walls. Because this style prioritizes comfort, warmth, and personal expression, it is a natural fit for log home living!

A log home is a unique opportunity to create a comfortable home that is also current and stylish. Lean into the style that best fits your tastes and happy decorating!

I love all of these! I’m drawn to the modern organic style because of how clean and natural it feels. 🌿 Though the cottage style feels the most homey and inviting. ☕ I have a feeling the equestrian style would go over the best with Parker because of the masculine vibes. 🐎
